My stepson wrote and asked me about the illegal immigrants and his two year “legal” wait for his Philippino bride to be and why he had to wait so long and it seemed so unfair to both of them. I responded…..
True we cannot force 12-18 million illegals to go away, and we cannot reward them for staying. The best we can do is incorporate them (the "line cutters")into our society whether we like it or not. But, we don't "need" them. Your mother and I have both done these so called jobs "American's don't want" throughout our lives and it's a "myth". They only comprise 24% of the labor intensive jobs such as agribusiness (only vegetables and fruits which we pick by hand) and construction is about the same percentage. They basically get paid close to the same wage but the difference is the employer doesn't have to pay the employment taxes, medicare, etc. Example being a lettuce picker who is legal gets about 7 cents a head and an illegal gets perhaps 5 cents (not much difference!). An illegal carpenter or laborer at a construction site gets paid well about 7 to 10 an hour while the legal one only gets a couple bucks more so the pay differential isn't that much. Reminder....these jobs supposedly American's don't want are held by 75% legal workers so obviously some american's want those jobs. Big business really doesn't need this so called cheap labor because it's not really saving them that much. Besides we are seeing illegals in all fields including nuclear energy (a bunch just picked up in news at a facility). They are "professionals" and white collar workers also.
Also forget about this nonsense that they want to become citizens......according to most interviews with border patrol professionals, they don't...! Mexico won't help us because their oligarchy is so corrupt they would never amount to much there and the Mexican government depends on the millions sent back to their relatives.
Secondly, we are dealing with "this hemisphere" which makes a difference to many of the "Globalists". With Nafta and Kafta the Globalists are really winning and don't want a border much less enforce it. Globalization crosses party lines....Bush openly says he is one and most in congress (both houses) are globalists either because they really want it or because they know it's as inevitable as eventual socialized medicine in this country. We are heading toward more "globalization". The UN is really behind this as well as the European socialists. Yes it does create some jobs, but remember these jobs created are the "treaty enforcement" etc jobs at an international forum. Both Kafta and Nafta were not supposed to have strong enforcement arms but both treaties have so far created about 600 bueacratic jobs in three "tiers" of "oversight" and "enforcement"; (international law and trade specialists etc). So these agencies are "proliferating" under UN sponsorship. Example of enforcement, we are not allowed to stop "unsafe" Mexican trucks from crossing our borders and traveling our interstates where they pay no road taxes to maintain those roads....!
Remember these things: closing borders goes against these treaties! Also remember that 20 years ago, I'm sure those in the European common market did not foresee a common currency and a common government and a complete lack of borders in Europe basically causing the EU today to become one of the strongest economic/governmental agencies in the world. Maybe North and Central America will be that way on my death-bed 20 years from now!
Do you think it’s reasonable to assume that “regionalization” such as the EU is a stepping stone to “globalization”? Why do you think that the UN supports such regional trade unions such as Nafta and Kafta just as they did the Common Market? I think it fits their agenda quite well as well as the agenda of many “globalists”.
Local politicians want to be seen on the side of the illegals (mostly mexican) only because they see that as the largest growing population in the US and a large voting block. What they fail to see is that most Hispanic (legal US citizens from Mexico) also resent the illegals and they are losing votes with that Hispanic block.
Yes, I want the border shut down and I see that as our only hope. Another thing we need to do is prevent all illegals from receiving any kind of assistance (education/med---except for emergencies/welfare, etc) here and that will cause them to leave on their own accord. We need to come down heavy on those employers who ignore the law and the majority of the citizens’ wishes by hiring these illegals. We successfully did this when we were flooded with eastern European illegal immigrants after the fall of the iron curtain. This was especially bad with former Czechoslovakian illegals but we prevented them from receiving any benefits and they could no longer claim "political asylum" so many left of their own accord.
There are reasonable solutions but we need to vote for brave politicians that will enforce the law and recall those who won't. We have to rescind the constitutional amendment that allows foreigners who have babies here to have those kids become automatic US citizens.
That's a summary of the situation and solution in a nutshell.
